Ř
Charitable Remainder
Trusts – The Charitable
Remainder Trust (CRT) is similar to other types of trusts except that it has a
charitable beneficiary. It grants or transfers property irrevocably to a trust
and specifies how trust income and principal are to be distributed. The trust
may be created to become effective during life or at death.
Ř
Gift Annuities
– The charitable gift annuity is among the oldest, simplest and most popular
methods of making a deferred charitable gift. A gift annuity is a combination of
a gift and an investment whereby, in exchange for a transfer of cash, marketable
securities, or under some circumstances, real estate, the charitable
organization will contractually guarantee to pay a specified annuity to the
donor and/or other beneficiary.
Ř
Bequests –
Each year many individuals exercise their privilege to determine the final
distribution of their estates and designate that a portion of their assets be
used for the benefit and support of The Foundation for Mind-Body-Medicine. Gifts
by will have become an integral part of the American philanthropic tradition.
Such gifts enable a person to make significant contributions that may not have
been possible during their life. Such bequests may designate that The Foundation
for Mind-Body-Medicine receive a bequest of a certain amount of money or certain
percentage of the estate, or may designate that The Foundation be the residual
beneficiary of the estate after bequests have been made to others.
Ř
Life Insurance
Policies – An important
but frequently overlooked role of life insurance is the one it can play in
planned charitable giving. Life insurance itself can be the direct funding
medium of a gift, permitting the donor to make a substantial gift for a
relatively modest annual outlay. Life insurance can also be used to replace an
asset that has been given to a charitable organization. The Foundation can
either be the beneficiary (primary or successor) or the owner of such a policy.
